Filippo di Matteo Strozzi (1428–1491) also known as Il Vecchio was a wealthy banker in Florence. He commissioned Benedetto da Maiano to make several sculptures, other works of art along with his funeral tomb in the Santa Maria Novella and a marble bust. The marble portrait bust of Filippo Strozzi is housed in the Louvre, Paris, while its terracotta modell is in the collection of the Staatliche Museen in Berlin. The Museum of Fine Arts purchased the plaster cast of the terracotta version in 1909. The cast was transferred in 1946 in a villa in the XII district of Budapest, were at the time a Free Art Academy was founded. The current whereabouts of the artwork are unknown.
