Niccolò da Uzzano (1359–1431) was a Florentine humanist, statesman and politician, who was against the politics of the then strengthening Medici family, and instead protected the Florentine republic. The polychrome terracotta bust follows the tradition of the Classical Antiquities portraiture. The bust was long considered as one of Donatello's (1386 or 1387; d 1466) early works, recently was attributed to Desiderio da Settignano. The Museum purchased in 1907 the copy of the portrait then considered as a work by Donatello. Probably lost during World War II, the current whereabouts of the artwork are unknown.
