The statue – which was formerly attributed to Giovanni Pisano, nowadays to Marco Romano (active in North Italy, between ca. 1290 and 1318) – represents Enrico Scrovegni, the founder of the Arena Chapel (also called Scrovegni Chapel) in Padua. This chapel contains the world-famous fresco cycle by Giotto. The life-size, praying marble statue of the wealthy banker Scrovegni stands in the sacristy. Commissioned by the museum in 1909, the cast was made in the plaster casting workshop of Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum, in Berlin. It was exhibited in the Romanesque Hall, in 1910. Probably lost during World War II, current whereabouts of the artwork are unknown.
