The tympanum of the northern portal of the Cathedral of Saint Martin in Lucca is decorated with a relief Deposition from the Cross. Below this, the lintel relief depicts the Adoration of the Magi. Giorgio Vasari attributed these marble reliefs to Nicola Pisano (ca. 1220 – ca. 1284) because they are closely based on Nicola Pisano’s Pisa Pulpit of 1260. Commissioned by the museum in 1909, the cast was made in the plaster casting workshop of Königliche Museen, Berlin. In 1910, it was exhibited in the Romanesque Hall. Probably lost during World War II, current whereabouts of the artwork are unknown.
