The Portail Royal of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres was built around 1145, and half a century later it was integrated into the new Gothic cathedral. The sculptural decoration of the three portals on the west façade connects to the theme of Coming of Christ with the depiction of Madonna with the Child, Ascension of Christ and Maiestas Domini in the tympana. The slender statues of the columns represent the types of Christ from the Old Testament, mainly kings. Commissioned by the museum in 1909, the cast was made by August Gerber in Cologne. It was exhibited in the Romanesque Hall in 1910. Probably lost during World War II, current whereabouts of the artwork are unknown.
